Dean A. Doherty earned his law degree at Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1995 and was admitted to practice that same year. He earned undergraduate degrees in Biology from the University of New Orleans in 1978 and in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1981. Mr. Doherty worked in various engineering assignments with Exxon Company U.S.A. from 1981 through 1992. He was certified as a Professional Engineer in Petroleum Engineering. He is an alumnus of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, class of 1974.
Dean opened his own law office on February 2, 2015 focusing exclusively on the practice of Family Law including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, community property partitions, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial contracts, adoptions and protective orders.
Dean began his legal career in 1995 and practiced with a plaintiff’s personal injury law firm for six years before maintaining his own private law office from 2001 to 2005 where he practiced in the areas of personal injury law, worker’s compensation, criminal defense, family law and general civil law. Dean worked at Cox Fitzgerald, L.L.C from 2005 to 2014 where he concentrated his practice in all areas of Family Law and became a partner in the firm. Dean practiced Family Law at the Law office Joshua Guillory from May, 2014 through January, 2015.
Dean is a member of the Lafayette Parish and the Louisiana State Bar Associations and was the President of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association Family Law Section for 2009. He has been a member of Duhe’ American Inn of Court, the Louisiana Trial Lawyer’s Association and the American Bar Association.
